An Idle Mind !

There is a set of English proverbs that are worded similarly:
  • Idle hands are the devil's workshop
  • Idle hands are the devil's tools ("Collections" 1808)
  • Idle brains are the devil's workhouses (T. Fuller 1732)
  • An idle brain is the devil's workshop (H. G. Bohn, "Hand-Book of Proverbs," 1855)
  • If the Devil finds a Man idle, he'll set him at work (J. Kelly, "Scottish Proverbs," 1721)
  • The devil finds work (or mischief) for idle hands to do
There are many variations, but they all follow the same theme: A person who doesn't have something in particular to occupy himself with doing will be tempted to occupy himself with sin.  The phrasing is not found in the Bible, but like many "chimney corner scriptures" it has its roots in a scriptural idea.  When we have too much free time, and we're not spending it with God, in the Word of God, we leave ourselves open to many sinful thoughts and temptations.  One thing I can personally think of is the internet and its world wide range.  Be careful what you click on, a virus might not only enter your computer, but enter into your home.

The one saying that we have heard momma and them use is: "the idle mind is a playground for the devil."  There are a lot of things that momma and them said and did that we should forget, but this is not one of them.  This is a good and true saying.  An idle mind is a dangerous thing.  We must preoccupy our minds with the Word of God, good works, positive activities, and most of all with "What Would Jesus Do?"

We must stay the course and keep the focus by keeping our minds and hands active for the Lord.

Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to. (1 Timothy 5:13)

We're Back !

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. (Isaiah 43:19).

Hello and God Bless everyone. It has been almost 5 months since my wife and I last published a blog. God has been working in our lives.  He has taken us from the comfortable and familiar to a different place. Like Abram, sometimes God has to move us in order to bring us to the place He wants us to be; to depend on no one but Him.  We have to know that wherever God sends us that He will work it out, not just for us, but for the better good of the whole.

Living in close proximity with different cultures has caused great growth in our lives, and has truly increased our faith.

We have been back to visit with our old church-home.  It felt so good, but you have to enjoy, and not get fooled by the familiar.  The familiar will always feel good.  It is okay to visit, but there is no going back unless God says so.  We have to keep moving forward to get what God has for us.

GOD IS ALWAYS IN CHARGE AND IN CONTROL!!!

HOLD TO GOD'S UNCHANGING HAND

There is Only One Good News

I am shocked that you are turning away so soon From God, who called you to Himself through the loving mercy of Christ.  You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News, but is not the Good News at all.  You are being fooled by those who deliberately twist the truth concerning Christ.  (Galatians: 1:6-7/NLT)

Dear fellow believers, God is transitioning us from one place to another, and from one thing to another.  You will not hear from us for a while, but know that we are truly listening to hear God's voice so we don't go in the wrong direction or do the wrong thing.  We pray that all is well with you all, and that the Lord will watch between me and thee, while we are absent one from another.  We look forward to re-connecting with you in a few months.

Stay with Jesus is our prayer for you all and ourselves.

My Wife as a Mother !

Mothers are very special.  They are used by God to provide the nurturing, supportive love that models His own love for us.  My wife is very special and has a very Christian love for others, no more so than for our daughter Erica who is 31 years old and has 4 children of her own. Distance has taken the ability to be there physically on a regular basis, but thank God for a telephone, because she is constantly listening and dispensing Christian wisdom and love to our daughter.  The grand children are her heart, and praying over them on a daily basis is at the forefront of her lifestyle.

The Bible never states that every woman should be a mother.  However, it does say that those whom the Lord blesses to be mothers should take the responsibility seriously.  Mothers have a unique and crucial role in the lives of their children. Motherhood is not a chore or unpleasant task.  Just as a mother bears a child during pregnancy, and just as a mother feeds and cares for a child during infancy, so mothers also play an ongoing role in the lives of their children, whether they are adolescents, teenagers, young adults, or even adults with children of their own.  While the role of motherhood must change and develop, the love, care, nurture, and encouragement a mother gives should never cease.

In Titus 2:4, the Bible admonishes that older women teach and encourage younger women in the ways of motherhood.  The Greek word philoteknos appears in reference to mothers loving their children.  This word represents a special kind of “mother love.”  The idea that flows out of this word is that of caring for our children, nurturing them, affectionately embracing them, meeting their needs, and tenderly befriending each one as a unique gift from the hand of God.

I watch and listen to this relationship everyday between my wife and daughter.  I am Godly proud

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

The Light of The World

How cool is it to be light.  Light leads people out of darkness into the marvelous light (helps one to see things clearly).  Jesus is the light of the world, and once we become new creatures in Christ we possess that same light.  The light of life.  O'Lord, please let my light shine so that your glory may be seen.  I want my light to shine so bright that it will draw people to me, and then I can tell them about You, Jesus.  I want my light to reveal the truth; bring peace to a troubled situation; put joy in sad hearts, and replace hatred with love.  Thank You, Jesus, for my light, may it always shine bright.

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8:12)

Unconditional Love !

Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them. (John 14:21, NIV)

Agape love, the highest of the four types of love in the Bible, is selfless and sacrificial.  We have a different kind of love that we mostly display as people; a love which depends on a multitude of selfish desires.  What am I going to get out of this? Will it benefit me?  As God's children, we are to love everyone, regardless of appearance or status, but we struggle with this notion because it doesn't feed our flesh.  If we read the Bible on a daily basis, we might still struggle with our flesh, but our spirit would have the victory.  Just like we eat three meals a day (and then some) to feed our flesh, we must read the  Bible, pray, and seek God daily, and more than once a day in order to keep our spirit-man fed.  If we would be consistent, and persistent in the things of God we wouldn't have any trouble with loving God and each other unconditionally.  Amen (So be it)

Thank You for the Journey !

Lord I thank you for the beginning of my journey.  You thought of me before You laid the foundations of the earth.  You used my father and mother as living vessels to create the one and only me.  Lord I thank You that this journey has brought me to You to receive my salvation, and many deliverences.  Lord, I'm so glad that I am on a Jesus journey because there is no way I could make it without You (the Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit)!  Lord I thank You even when my journey gets a little rough because I know that no matter how bad it gets, adversity builds character, and more importantly You are still in charge and in control of every area of my life.  Lord I thank You most of all for the journey ahead of me.  You know that I'm not happy with the way some things are right now, but because I can count on You, Father, I know that this journey can change in the twinkling of an eye, and that the best is yet to come.  Amen
